Fool Your Metabolism So Your Weight Loss Won't Hit A Plateau

By Vanessa Summer

If you're like most of the people out there, you've probably tried a number of diets to different degrees of success. You could have lost some fat but you typically get to a certain point and then nothing you do can help you lose more fat. The plateau thing is really quite common--it is something that people deal with no matter what diet plan they follow. There isn't any way of avoiding this plateau if you don't fool your metabolism.

You probably have already arrived at the plateau at least once--in fact, it has most likely caused a frustrating end to more than one diet program. This is an unusual thing that takes place to even the most successful dieters sometime close to the third or fourth week of the diet they have picked. Until that moment, the weight drops off and then it just stops and nothing you do can get your body to get rid of more weight. This is one way your body responds to all of the changes you have been forcing upon it. Your body goes into a protection mode to prevent you from starving and it will slow down your rate of metabolism. What this ends up doing is keeping your body from losing any more weight.

This is what makes people believe that they simply aren't capable of achieving their weight loss objectives and they quit. This is what causes most of the people to start eating again and they usually gain back more weight than they lost to start with. The way to stop this is to select a diet where your calories simply get shifted. What you are trying to do is eat a different number of calories each day, which is supposed to trick your metabolism. If this works, it helps to keep your body from turning the switch and going into protective mode. It will keep your metabolism constant instead of slowing down and you'll shed even more weight. When you reach this point, you have passed the plateau and your diet will continue to work the way that it was designed to.

It's pretty simple to use this kind of plan for your every day routine. One of the most widely used calorie cycling techniques is the 14 day method. This program goes for 2 weeks, where you do the regular plan for 11 days, and then 3 days where you eat what you want. Switch your food throughout each day to trick your metabolism and then eat whatever you desire to keep yourself from hitting the plateau. This could also help you from becoming frustrated with a rigid diet regimen. You can keep repeating these 14 days until you really feel happy with the amount of weight you have shed.

The 2 day plan is another good plan in which you eat normally for one day and then reduce your calories by 20% all the way up to 35%. Keep repeating the process for as long as it takes you to achieve a satisfactory level of weight loss. This program is wonderful for helping you get past your plateau and lose the weight you want to lose so you should look it over.
